Roedd Iesu Grist
yn athro da. Dywedodd wrth lawer o straeon. Storïau sy'n synnu. Straeon y mae
pobl yn eu symud. Straeon a oedd yn tarfu ar bobl. Roedd ei storïau bob amser
yn ymwneud â theyrnas Duw.
Rydyn ni'n hoffi stori. Rwy'n ei wneud. Rwy'n credu ein bod i gyd yn ei wneud.
Dyna pam yr hoffem glywed straeon eraill. Fel bachgen, dywedodd fy Dad a'm Ewythr wrthyf
straeon am yr Ail Ryfel Byd. Dyna pam yr wyf yn credu ei bod mor bwysig i'w gofio a
pham fod prosiect Amlwch Pabi mor bwysig. Pan fyddwn yn cofio, rydym yn rhan o rywbeth
llawer mwy.
Wrth wraidd ein gwasanaeth, rydym yn cofio stori Iesu. Rydym yn sôn am ei fywyd,
marwolaeth, atgyfodiad ac esgiad yn ein hamser gyda'n gilydd.
Rydym yn canolbwyntio ar ei fwyd olaf gyda'i ffrindiau. Pam? Rydym yn deall pŵer y stori.
Dyma'r stori sy'n ein cysylltu ni. beth yw eich stori? Beth yw stori yr eglwys hon?
Sut allwn ni ei ddweud? Meddyliwch am y rhaglenni teledu mwyaf poblogaidd.
Maent yn straeon am bobl. Daeth y rhaglen 'Britain's Got Talent' ar gyfer Ynys Môn
yn stori Grufydd Wyn.
Mae'r ffilmiau mwyaf poblogaidd hefyd yn straeon am bobl. mae'r llyfrau mwyaf poblogaidd yn
ymwneud â phobl, a hobbits wrth gwrs ... Dywedodd Iesu wrth straeon am fywyd go iawn ....
Siaradodd am deuluoedd oedd â phroblemau, pobl a oedd wedi colli pethau, y rhai mewn
grym nad oeddent yn gwasanaethu. Symudodd ei storïau pobl. Mae ei straeon yn symud pobl heddiw.
Mae darllen yr Efengyl heddiw yn adrodd hanes yr haden mwstard. Dyma'r hadau lleiaf yn y
byd hysbys. Mae'n tyfu i mewn i un o'r llwyni mwyaf. Yn Palestina ac Israel heddiw, mae'r
planhigion mwstard yn rhoi cysgod i adar ac anifeiliaid. Nid dyma'r planhigyn gorauaf. Nid yw'n
edrych fel y goeden talaf. Nid yw'n wych. Nid yw'n ffitio delwedd y Derw, Sycamorwydd na Thraeth.
Mae'n fwy fel planhigyn sy'n ymosod ar ein gerddi. Nid wyf yn arddwr. Rwy'n hoffi tyfu ffrwythau a
llysiau. Weithiau fel garddwr mae'n rhaid i chi ymladd yn erbyn planhigion penodol. Rydych chi'n eu
tynnu i fyny. Maent yn dal i dyfu. Rwy'n dyfalu bod hwn yn stori yr ydych i gyd yn ei wybod.
Yn yr un modd, nid yw teyrnas Dduw fel unrhyw gymdeithas yr ydym yn ei wybod. Dysgodd Iesu
am y tro cyntaf. Soniodd am y rhai nad oeddent yn croesawu'r rhai oedd y rhai mwyaf croesawus.
Fel y dywedais yr wythnos diwethaf, roedd Iesu'n tarfu ar bobl. Dywedodd un o'm ffrindiau fod
Iesu yn swnio fel bregethwr radical a fyddai'n gwrthdaro pobl. mewn ffordd mae hi'n iawn; yn fwy
hawl na chaniatáu i Iesu fod yn braf.
Fel dilynwyr Iesu, cawn ein galw i fod yn wahanol; ddim yn neis. Cafodd y Cristnogion cyntaf eu
cyhuddo o fod eisiau troi'r byd yn ôl i ben. Rwy'n gobeithio mai dyna ein nod hefyd
We like stories. I do. I think we all
do. It is why we like to hear the stories of others.
As a boy, both my Dad and my Uncle
told me stories about the Second World War. It is why I believe that it is so
important to remember and why the Amlwch Poppy project is so important. When we
remember, we are part of something much bigger.
At the heart of our service, we
remember the story of Jesus. We mention his life, death, resurrection and
ascension in our time together.
We focus on his last meal with his
friends. Why? We understand the power of story. It is the story which unites
us. what is your story? What is the story of this church? How can we tell it?
Think of the most popular television
programmes. They are stories about people. The programme ‘Britain’s Got Talent’
for Anglesey became the story of Grufydd Wyn.
The most popular films are also
stories about people. the most popular books are about people, and hobbits of
course... Jesus told stories about real life.... He spoke about families that
had problems, people who had lost things, those in power who did not serve. His
stories moved people. His stories move people today.
Today’s Gospel reading tells the story
of the mustard seed. It was the smallest seed in the known world. It grows into
one of the largest shrubs. In Palestine and Israel today, the mustard plants
give shelter to birds and animals. It is not the prettiest plant. It does not
look like the tallest tree. It is not majestic. It does not fit the image of the
Oak, Sycamore or Beach. It is more like a plant that invades our gardens. I am
not a gardener. I like growing fruit and vegetables. Sometimes as a gardener
you have to fight against particular plants. You pull them up. They keep
growing. I am guessing this is a story you all know.
Similarly, the kingdom of God is not
like any society we know. Jesus taught about the last being first. He spoke of
those who were not welcome becoming the ones who the most welcomed.
As I said last week, Jesus disturbed
people. One of my friends said that Jesus sounds like a radical preacher who
would upset people. in a way she is right; more right than allowing Jesus just
to be nice.
As followers of Jesus, we are called
to be different; not nice. The first Christians were accused of wanting to turn
the world upside down. I hope that is our goal too.
